There is no single cause for suicide, you can learn the risk factors and warning signs of mental/brain distress and suicide. You can learn the right questions to ask, offer support, and refer someone who is having suicide thoughts to an appropriate professional.
If you notice someone displaying signs of mental distress or warning signs of suicide - start a conversation. Don't be afraid to ask the question, "Are you thinking about suicide?"
If the answer is "yes," contact the Crisis & Suicide Prevention Lifeline at 988.
